Reading: Games Decisions

I actually liked this weeks reading , especially the video, i didn't really like the video in previous weeks but this week thought it was great, i managed to watch the whole thing and found it very interesting. The video basically summed up the articles into easier to understand less detailed versions. view video here

The articles this week were good aswell, i enjoyed the information we were given, the first article, click here to see, Building a Princess Saving App  was quite long being 51 pages however it was mainly graphically which is a huge help in understanding these complex topics. I found the page discussing the wii fit board very interesting , the graphic along with it showing the functional , , usability and aesthetic design combined into a game design was a great help in visualizing. The STARS MODEL which is used to identify what users are actually learning was also a great help in understanding game decisions.

The second article click hear to see being a academic paper was just too much information for me to process , I've never liked academic papers as i struggle to stay focused while reading them however from what i did manage to read and understand it was very helpful in my understanding of game decisions. The study they discussed was based on the flow theory of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. They found that the structure of flow experience in the context of computer game playing behavior was different from the original theory's structure,, it could be divided into cognitive flow and emotional flow . I think this paper highlighted alot of problems whit game behavior such as if a player had emotional flow experience causing contentment or low consciousness  it could cause physical and psychological impacts which is  a very interesting point.

Overall another good, informative week of reading.
